Police officer shot and two minors were detained

A Police officer underwent surgery and is now recovering from gunshot wounds he sustained in Belize City last night.  Reports are that just before ten o’clock last night 30-year-old Police Constable Wilbert Chee was on his motorcycle riding on Ebony Street when he was shot.  Chee received multiple shots and was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Love News understands that there are surveillance cameras in the area that Police are currently reviewing.  Two minors have been detained in relation to the incident. The mother of one of the minors, Viola Smith who lives on Ebony street told Love News that police officers intentionally targeted her home whenever an incident occurs in the area.

Viola Smith, Mother of Detainees: “The searched the place and didn’t find anything. The brought them out here I told them one of my sons is a minor the other one is an adult, they weren’t paying me any mind they were not even listening to that. They did what they had to do and line up everybody out here because they went to everybody’s house and they lined up. Two minors, and an adult and the rest of adults are there but they took the two minors and one adult and I told him I said “Mr. this is a minor.” “Well we have to take them.” When they were done doing what they had to do they took them they didn’t tell me well miss you have to go along with your son they didn’t take me along with him I had to go and find out in the rain after one where my son was. Well I got to find out where he was me and the neighbor because her son is a minor too and we went and we found them out. They took my sons out of their bed –

Reporter: Okay and can you vouch for your son and say that he was-

Viola Smith, Mother of Detainees: “I could vouch for them because one of them sleeps with me and the other one sleeps by himself in the bed.”

Voice 1: There were so many people that could vouch everyone was around.

Viola Smith, Mother of Detainees:Everyone was in their house because it is everybody’s house that they knock and they took out everybody but they took my minor son and the adult, they took the neighbor’s son too everybody else was left one side. I’m really upset because it’s wrong. The document they made me sign they didn’t tell me what it was for, I signed it they said it’s where the son is underage that’s all they told me. They didn’t understand any details because Ms.I can’t see that well so if they told me “Do you want to read it.” I would have told them to please read it for me because I didn’t even have my glasses on me. I would have told them that. They  jut made me sign and told me and my neighbor this paper is because your son and the neighbor’s son are underage that’s it- when they took the paper they took it and took three of them through the door in the rain and we came home up to now.”

Smith added that the minors were taken by Police without representation by a parent or legal advisor.
