Police Officers Charged with the Murder of Dyandre Chee

Police officers Esmin Flores and Salomen Cowo were hauled this morning before the Magistrate Court in Orange Walk Town, where they were arraigned for the murder of 19-year-old Dyandre Chee. The two officers had their faces covered as their fellow officers walked them to the courtroom. Magistrate Deborah Rogers read them a single charge of murder. No plea was taken, and the officers were remanded to the Belize Central Prison until their next court date on July 26. The other two officers, PC Castaneda and PC Jacobs, are not expected to be charged because they did not fire their police-issued firearms. All four officers are also facing disciplinary charges and will be placed on interdiction. The 19-year-old father of one was shot and killed by police on Saturday night during a police chase in Orange Walk Town.
