This morning members of The Federation of Cruise Tourism Associations of Belize (FECTAB) were detained by Police Officers after they gathered in protest on Coney Drive, Belize City.  Love News understands that the group wanted to send a strong statement as Lord Michael Ashcroft made an appearance on his television station. The group reportedly gathered to object to Ashcroft’s investments in cruise tourism.

Yhony Rosado, Vice President, FECTAB

Yhony Rosado, Vice President, FECTAB: “We’re out this morning because Mr.Ashcroft as you know is trying to involve himself in cruise tourism and so our federation of the cruise tourism is not informed in any way and so we are here to let Mr.Ashcroft know that it’s wrong involving himself in something as cruise tourism and not involving us and so we the Belizean people always get left behind and somebody big as Mr.Ashcroft to get into port business and cruise business and there are many other people that we are protecting here and it’s our people that punish every time. Every time Mr.Ashcroft is doing something it is a problem for us. Thing has dragged us to court time and time and it’s not for hundreds of thousands it’s for millions and so we have to have some kind of heart to stand up against people like this. Are they with us or are they against us because they are the people that are punishing the country with poverty and the cruise tourism he’s getting himself in Waterloo and  ports and so where are we again? We are not being informed, our president we haven’t gotten a text, an email, a Whatsapp no kind of information so we’re letting this country know that something is wrong whereby such an educated man such as Mr.Ashcroft is trying to get into cruise tourism and without we being invited and so we have to speak for our rights. Somebody has to stand up.”

According to the President of FECTAB, David Almendarez the police officers were not being disrespectful for detaining them.
