Police Officers Face Interdiction as Prisoners Escape Under Watch: Manhunt Underway for Hildebrandt Codd
Two police officers are facing interdiction after two prisoners escaped under their watch. Tonight, the manhunt continues for Hildebrandt Codd, one of the two escapees. Police were able to recapture Jesse Mejia on Baldwin Drive in Belize City, a few hours after his escape yesterday. There are consequences to pay for this incident as the Police Commissioner has summed it up to negligence.
Both Hildebrandt and Mejia were due for a court hearing yesterday morning, and were brought down to Belize City when they took an opportunity to escape. Love News understands that the men jumped out of a High Court window after police removed their handcuffs and left them inside a courtroom to wait. Mejia is on remand after being charged for the 2018 murders of 25-year-old, Marlon Spain and 24-year-old, Casey Lozano. Mejia’s criminal history also shows charges levied against him for chopping two siblings in 2016, as well as a shooting incident in 2015. The other escaped prisoner, Hildebrandt Codd, is on remand, accused of the murder of Densmore Bowen who was killed in 2019 in Belmopan. Notably, it is the second time in less than a month that dangerous prisoners have escaped from police custody. In November, accused double murderer Brian Castillo and accused rapist William Carabantes, who remains at large, escaped while being transported to prison.
