With the new regulations coming on stream in a few hours, Love News reached out to the Commissioner of Police Chester Williams. According to Williams, they stand ready to enforce the regulations under the State of Emergency.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “My instruction to my officers is that we must go as aggressive as we can in terms of ensuring that we achieve the spirit of the legislation and I expect nothing but that. And so I want to say to business owners you are to open within the time prescribed by law, close on time. Those that are required to have markings put your markings, ensure that social distancing is maintained within the work place as well as outside of the workplace if it is that you are of such an establishment that allows patrons to come and to the wider citizenry stay home. The best cure or the best prevention of the spread of COVID-19 is for people to stay at home and we expect that they will stay at home and if they don’t then we have to do what needs to be done. Those persons who are on a self quarantine I don’t know what to say but we have received information that a number of them are violating their quarantine requirements and we are coming for you. We know some of them already, we’re investigating them and very shortly we’ll make arrests where those are concerned.”
Police Commissioner clarified that contrary to the reports of the police reverting to a 12-hour shift system, that is not the case.
