And, while the police continue to search for Jacobs, their investigation into an apparent missing tourist has concluded, and it turns out the story was a false alarm. Last week, reports surfaced that a tourist went missing in the Xunantunich area, and a man died while searching for the missing foreigner. However, that report was fake and no one either died or went missing. Police Press Officer, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, explained that the police’s efforts were in vain.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Department, Press Officer: “I have asked the officer commanding tourism police unit, the officer in charge of the western region the same questions because of course a lot of questions came to me and different rumors. One, a search was conducted in the area where they claim that they saw a tourist and the tourist may have gone missing and upon checking with the tour guide that was responsible for that group that tour guide confirmed that all his clients were accounted for. So one, we would want to say that nobody went missing and two, no one drowned while looking for that alleged missing person.”
