Seine Bight Village has gone without any major crime reported in almost a year, but that streak was broken last night when police responded to a situation at a local resort in the Stann Creek community. However, police say that their response efforts have foiled what could have been a more violent incident. The armed assailants went onto the Placencia Peninsula and then traveled by foot to the resort to commit their crime. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams provided more details today.
The Easter holidays are less than a month away, and it is during that season that Belizeans and international tourists alike flock to beachfronts to enjoy the sea, sand, and sun. The ComPol indicated that police will spare no efforts to keep communities like the peninsula safe during the upcoming break.
While no one was hurt, several shots were fired in the area, raising some panic. When asked about it today, Police Commissioner Chester Williams responded to questions related to the randomness of this crime but also the brazenness of it. Here’s how he responded.
Because a boat was used, police are using this bit of information to track down the suspect they want for questioning. However, the Commissioner indicated that their scope may also include nearby Dangriga and Hopkins. We will keep following the story.
