A boat theft was reported to police in Caye Caulker late Saturday night, prompting a search in nearby waters that has so far turned up empty.  According to a police report, at about 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, Victor Canul, a Belizean boat captain of Caye Caulker Village, visited the police station to report the theft.  Canul told police that a blue-and-white Lanchan skiff named Carlota, fitted with a 75-horsepower engine and owned by Rene Villanueva, was stolen from the docking area near Salties at approximately 9:36 p.m. the same night.  Police say tracking data showed the vessel was moved from the docking area around that time; however, the tracker was later disabled and could not provide any further location updates.
