The police department’s border patrol team intercepted a man in the Santa Cruz area in Orange Walk District with an assortment of contraband items. The police team reportedly spotted him and others unloading a canoe that came from across the border sometime after 7 o’clock last night. Two of the men managed to escape, while 39-year-old Walter Morales was detained. He was taken to be swabbed and then placed into mandatory quarantine.
A street side vendor was held up at gunpoint by three male persons yesterday afternoon just before three o’clock. Reports are that 61-year-old Alva McKoy was on Central American Boulevard when the three robbers approached her. One of them was armed with a handgun and demanded money from her. McKoy says she attempted to run away but one of the robbers pulled her by her apron and stripped her of seven hundred dollars cash and her cellular phone along with her food handlers ID and keys. Police have since detained three men including a teenager for questioning. The trio was found inside a taxi on Nurse Findley Crescent. A search by police also uncovered the victim’s ID card. One of the detainees has since escaped police custody. We are following this story.
A man has been arrested for attempting to rob a taxi driver. 20-year-old Bryan Navid Guzman was charged for dangerous harm, use of deadly means of harm, aggravated assault, attempted robbery and possession of firearm without a license. The incident occurred on August 22 when the driver, Jersen Ramirez, stopped to pick up a passenger who reportedly pulled out a gun and attempted to rob him.
