The Belize Police Department (BPD) is preparing to upgrade its digital crime-management infrastructure, as discussions advance on the replacement of its current Crime Information Management System (CIMS). Love News understands that the platform, used to record and retrieve crime reports, case files, and other critical operational data, was restored today after being inaccessible for nearly two weeks. Police officials say the disruption required technical intervention from SAS, the parent company of the software, and that efforts are ongoing to restore full functionality in the short term. Authorities have also confirmed that any outstanding licensing issues linked to the disruption have since been addressed, and access for officers is expected to resume. Beyond restoring service, police officials say the interruption has accelerated plans to modernize the department’s digital systems. SAS has advised that the CIMS platform is being phased out, prompting the Belize Police Department to engage in discussions on a new, more advanced system. Authorities confirm that talks are underway with SAS regarding a proposed replacement platform, while alternative solutions are also being assessed to ensure a secure, reliable, and seamless migration of existing data.
