At the wrong place at the wrong time, that’s what police say transpired in the murder of Glenn Vernon. The 44-year-old security guard was gunned down last Thursday just a stone’s throw away from his home in Belize City. Today, Police Press Officer ASP, Fitzroy Yearwood, confirmed that Vernon was not the intended target of the gunmen. Here’s how Yearwood explained to the media this morning.
ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Public Relations, Belize Police Department: “Initial investigations revealed that he was at the residence of Gonzalez and Alvarez on Dolphin Drive in Belize City when two men on a motorbike approached when one of them opened fire causing his injuries. I know that police have interviewed several persons so far but no real detention as yet. Apparently in his absence the persons that he was associating with had a problem with other persons known to them and apparently these persons returned unbeknown to Mr.Vernon that something took place before he arrived there. So one we know that he couldn’t have been the intended target because he had no knowledge of what took place before.”
