Police seeking two men in the murder of Ramon Espat

Tonight, police in Orange Walk Town are seeking two men for the weekend murder of 24-year-old Ramon Espat. The Orange Walk resident was gunned down the wee hours of Sunday morning while on Aurora Street. According to police, Espat was targeted by two gunmen who fired as many as twenty shots at him. A video, now making rounds on social media, caught the moments after Espat had been shot. It shows a seriously injured Espat and two of his loved ones trying to call the authorities while trying to save him. He was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital but succumbed while receiving treatment. Senior Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commander of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, Hilberto Romero, says that investigators are looking at a possible connection between Espat’s murder and previous shooting incidents in the town.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero: “Police visited the hospital where they found Ramon Espat, 24 years, with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Investigations revealed that he was in that area when he was approached by a lone gunman when he fired several shots at him causing injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. We are presently seeking two suspects in regards to this investigation. We are working on a motive at this time. We are seeking these two persons who we believe can assist in this investigation and are presently looking for them but we have not been able to find them as yet. We are looking at that. We are looking at the background of the suspects as well as the deceased and we will try to see if we can find a connection.”

Senior Superintendent Romero added that Espat was known to police and had previous run-ins with the law.
