Police Seize Rifle, Ammunition in San Ignacio Raid; Three Family Members Detained

Police in San Ignacio have detained three individuals after an unlicensed firearm along with its ammunition was discovered at their residence in Cayo District.  Earlier today, officers visited the Amaya family’s home on Maya Street in San Ignacio Town, where they conducted a search of the premises. During the search, police found a 9mm GIVATI rifle along with two magazines. Additionally, a drum magazine, 195 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 20 rounds of .223 ammunition were discovered concealed in a bucket in one of the rooms.  The individuals taken into custody have been identified as 51-year-old Reina Isabel Amaya, a Belizean domestic; 20-year-old Henry Jeremy Amaya; and 27-year-old Jose Santos Amaya, both Belizean laborers. None of them were able to produce a valid firearm license for the weapon or the ammunition. As a result, all three were detained and escorted to the Police Station. They are expected to face charges related to the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
