A police sergeant is at the Western Regional Hospital receiving treatment after he was reportedly assaulted at the Lands Department in Belmopan. (The incident occurred this morning at around eleven o’clock when the department’s legal officer Llewellyn Usher attempted to enter the building but was denied access by Police. Usher reportedly insisted on going inside and that was when he was subdued by four police officers. Love News spoke with a witness at the scene who indicated that the videos that are currently circulating were taken after Usher allegedly assaulted Sergeant Cobb by hitting him in the face subsequently breaking his nose. In an interview with Prime Minister Briceno earlier today, he confirmed that he had given directives to shut down the Lands Department until Monday.
Usher has been detained by Police pending charges. We understand that the Police Commissioner has ordered an internal investigation into the matter. We will keep following this story.
