A Dangriga Police officer is being investigated after he shot a man on Tuesday night. ACP Joseph Myvett said the incident happened after police were called to handle a report of a disturbance at a store in that municipality.
ACP Joseph Myvette: “One Nelson Jackson was observed behaving boisterously and as a result he was approached by officers in order to calm him down and remove him from the area but he kept on behaving in that fashion and at some point during his confrontation with the officers he made a motion to go towards his pants waist with his right hand. As a result an officer took out his service firearm and fired one shot which caught him on the right upper leg. He is admitted at the Southern Regional Hospital in stable condition.”
Police searched Jackson but did not find any weapon on him. Police have opened a criminal and internal investigation of the incident. The Officer, who was not named, remains on active duty.
