A man on a bicycle was shot by police during a stop and frisk session at 4 am on Saturday morning in Dangriga Town. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says he was riding with a loaded weapon.
ACP Joseph Myvette: “Dangriga Police was on mobile patrol when they observed a dark skin male person on a bicycle. He was approached and informed that search would be conducted on him. As a result a struggle ensued between this male persons later identified as John Elijio 39 years of a Dangriga town address. During the struggle according to the officers Mr. Elijio went to this pants waist with his right hand attempting to retrieve something from his pants waist and as result the officer fearing for his life fired one shot towards him which caught him on the left upper leg. A search was then conducted on him which resulted in the discovery of a chrome in color smith and Wesson 9mm pistol loaded with 12 rounds of ammunition. He was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital where he was treated and is now detained pending charges.”
The suspect is under police guard at the Southern Regional Hospital.
