Political campaigning at a time like this calls for creative and innovative ideas. In ordinary times the streets and lamp posts would be covered with political posters, flags and banners. But Covid-19 has brought a stop to all that; the politicians are now tamed and according to Michael Peyrefitte who is the Chairman of the United Democratic Party they are making their rounds to the electorate.
Love News also spoke on this subject with Patrick Faber who has hopes of being the next Prime Minister of Belize.
Hon. Patrick Faber, Party Leader, United Democratic Party: “As you know when the convention was held there was some concerns about my ability to unite the party that has been put to rest. We are now a united force and we are going to gun for these elections in November with full force. You can expect a launch from the party coming up shortly. You can expect our policy and platform committee to present in a formal manner what our platform is going to be but by and large for those who have been asking our party is in government they say all the others have plan – of course they have to have plans because nobody knows what they’re about. The PUP haven’t been in power for thirteen years. Apart from the fact that we know that whatever they will actually do will be riddled with corruption we don’t know anything else so they have to present a plan and the other fly by night parties of course will have to put something forward but they know what the UDP wants to do because we’re already doing it. It’s like when the PUP said that they are going to provide digital devices from standard four to fourth form, well the UDP administration is already doing it and we’re showing what we will continue to do so the road that we have already embarked on we will move even more to make sure that these things come to fruition and especially as we now take on the challenges of COVID-19 we will make sure that we continue to try to recover as best as we can and bring things back to normal and then take it to another height.”
Love News understands unofficially that election day will be Wednesday, November 4.
