Thank you for staying with us. Vote buying and vote selling have both been a dark, but open secret in Belize’s electoral process. The culture exposes a situation where the electorate is by and large dependent on whom they elect. Politicians have become, in essence, the first response to public welfare. A new book, written by former EU Ambassador, Dylan Vernon, argues that the situation is at a crisis point, which, if it goes unaddressed, can have serious problems for democracy. Reporter Dale McDougall attended the launch of the book today to learn more.
