A popular deejay is dead and several others injured following a traffic incident over the weekend. The collision between two vehicles occurred just after nine o’clock on Sunday morning near a dangerous curve in Buena Vista Village, Corozal District. Assistant Superintendent of Police, Peter Serrano of the Corozal Police Station spoke to Love News on the incident.

“On Sunday June 19th 2016 at 9am Corozal police received information of a fatal traffic accident in Buena Vista village in the Corozal district. As a result a team was immediately deployed to the area and on arrival on the scene two vehicles were seen with extensive damages to their front portions; a white Geo Prizm car and a gold Nissan X Trail. It appeared that both vehicles were involved in a head on collision. A motionless maler person was seen sitting in the front passenger seat of the car, he was later taken out of the car where he appeared lifeless. Initial investigations revealed that on the given date at about 8:45am the Geo was travelling towards Corozal town and the Nissan X Trail was travelling towards Orange Walk. Upon entering Buena Vista village around a curve both vehicles collided. Three other persons were in the car, all of them received injuries and were transported to the Northern Regional Hospital. We are yet to ascertain how many persons were in the Nissan. The male person in the car sustained severe body and head injuries and died on the spot. The scene was processed by scenes of crimes technicians, a sketch plan was drawn, blood samples were taken from both drivers. The body was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. He is now in the morgue where he awaits a post mortem.”
Love News understands that the two vehicles involved are a Nissan Xtrail and a GEO Prism. Traveling in the white Prism were Samantha Zoria Cordova, Mirna Trejo and Mirna Cordova. Meanwhile, police are yet to determine how many passengers were in the SUV which was being driven at the time by 21-year-old, Gilbert Sosa. 34-year-old Sergio Mendez is well known in the entertainment industry as DJ Che. In remembrance of him, fellow member of the industry, Lucio Alcoser Jr has embarked on an initiative to have a remembrance piece painted at the Philip Alvarez Park at Union Town in Orange Walk. The park is reportedly in the neighbourhood where Mendez grew up. An invite was sent out to fellow DJs and fans of his to meet at the park and sign their names.
