Port of Belize Files Notice of Proceedings Against Former Minister Erwin Contreras

The attorneys for the Port of Belize Limited have filed a notice of intended proceedings in the High Court.  The filing took place this morning in Belize City, noting that in accordance to Section Three of the Public Authorities Protection Act, they will be instituting a claim against Erwin Contreras. That claim, however, can only be made 30 days after Contreras has been notified.  Contreras is Belize’s former Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Investment under the Barrow administration.  The Port of Belize is claiming that they have lost a substantial amount of money due to the signing of the Definitive Agreement by Contreras, in favor of Portico Enterprise Limited.  The damages being sought include general, aggravated and exemplary.
