Postmortem reveals murder, not accident

The postmortem examination of Victor Hugo Pratt has revealed that the businessman’s death was not as a result of a road traffic incident but rather, the Santana villager was shot to death.   Initially Police believed that Pratt lost control of his motorcycle, which led to his death.

The postmortem examination of Victor Hugo Pratt has revealed that the businessman’s death was not as a result of a road traffic incident but rather, the Santana villager was shot to death.   Initially Police believed that Pratt lost control of his motorcycle, which led to his death. According to their initial report, he was heading towards Sandhill, Belize District, and his body was found on Tuesday evening on the shoulder of the road. However, his postmortem exam revealed that Pratt died of hypovolemic shock due to internal bleeding brought on by a gunshot wound to the chest.  Yesterday, when we spoke to Pratt’s sister Angela Matura, she had voiced her suspicions over the cause of her brother’s death.

Angela Matura, Sister of Deceased: “From the crime scene it didn’t show that the motorcycle got hit, showed no bend or anything, it didn’t show any trace that it brakes on the road to end up on the sidewalk no kind of trace. It was my mother in law call me and told me that because she was on her way going home through the road and she saw it and called me back and told me that my brother wasn’t moving and I said “Okay.” I went there like four thirty and he was still in the same position that he fell and the site I saw the way he fell his head was turned to the back, his foot was propped up on the bike still and no where far from the sidewalk. It’s hard to tell what exactly happened to him, it’s hard to tell the way it happened and I just hope that we get answers out of it very soon.”

Today we spoke with Matura to get the family’s reaction on this development in Pratt’s case.  Matute says her brother was shot in the arm but the bullet traveled to his torso, penetrating his lungs.

Angela Matura, Sister of Deceased: “All of us felt shocked at the moment. We went to the crime scene seeing our brother lying down on the ground on the side of the side walk. We tried to figure out what could be the cause of his death never knowing that he got shot and so far we don’t know who he got into trouble with, we don’t know anything about him to say that somebody wanted to hurt him. The police first of all I don’t know what is their duty but they didn’t do anything they just stayed there and left the body there for so much hours and they were supposed to check see what could have happened at the time and you could see that it wasn’t a crash, you could see that there was no trace of brakes on the road you could have at least checked the body and see what happened to him and what caused his death and they never even checked that. The person who took my brother’s life their day will come too and I know they won’t sleep good at night.”

The media requested an interview with the Police investigators but that request was ignored.
