Pregnant Woman and Brother Remanded for Attempted Murder in Stabbing Case

A pregnant woman and her brother have been remanded to the Belize Central Prison over a stabbing that occurred in Belize City earlier this week. Thirty-five-year-old, Pamela Estrada and twenty-eight-year-old, Ricky Jones appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today, charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of dangerous harm. They were not allowed to enter a plea as the matter will be handled on indictment in the High Court of Belize. Bail could not be granted in the first instance, and they were remanded until September 14. The victim, twenty-six-year-old, Leon Vernon, was reportedly seen running out of a yard on Victoria Street just after four o’clock in the evening on Monday, July 10. Vernon sustained several stab wounds to the body and was admitted to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in critical condition. Police are seeking one other suspect in connection with this incident.
