Three Belizean athletes are in Tokyo for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Shaun Gill is competing in the 10-meter dash. Samantha Dirk will test her speed in the 400-meter sprint and Amado Cruz will put all his training in the canoe sprint. That athlete are accompanied by Belizean sports officials. Hilly Martinez, President of the Belize Olympic Association spoke of the athletes’ preparation.
Hilly Martinez, President, N.O.C: “Belize will support Belizeans you know they’ve always done that so we must be grateful for the support that we get from the Belizean community. I think they will have the support. Shawn as I said has been training for quite some time and so has Samantha. Amado because of the COVID too could not have done the necessary training that he wanted to do but he was still keeping in shape and he was putting in I don’t remember how many hours a day in Spain along with his coach so I’m sure they’ll represent Belize as good ambassadors and good athletes.”
