President of Rwanda to Make Historical Visit to Belize

The President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, is slated to make a stop in Belize from September 14 to 15. The two-day visit will make history as it will be the first time a head of state from Africa will be visiting Belize. A press release was issued, stating that the president will sign agreements aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. A joint special sitting of the House of Representatives and the Senate will also be held where Kagame will be addressing the members. He will also be visiting the students at the University of Belize in Belmopan. During his last visit to Kigali, Rwanda for the 2022 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, Prime Minister John Briceno was impressed by Kagame’s transformation of Rwanda after the 1994 genocide devastated the nation. Due to his achievement, he will be conferred with the Order of Belize. This is the second highest honour awarded to foreigners in Belize by the government of Belize which was instituted on August 16, 1991.
