Prime Minister Dean Barrow is presently in Cuba seeking medical attention. While there, the Prime Minister met with the President of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Lady, Lis Cuesta, and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla yesterday. The two leaders discussed challenges, accomplishments and cooperation between the countries and a desire to further strengthen the already close ties between the countries. Additionally, they agreed that greater cooperation would be especially useful in the political arena, tourism and trade. The two leaders discussed, the upcoming United Nations General Assembly. Prime Minister Barrow reiterated Belize’s continuing support in calling for an end to the unilateral, unjust commercial, economic, and financial blockade against Cuba and its people.The meeting ended with the Prime Minister expressing appreciation for Cuba’s long-lasting benevolence in relation to the scholarships extended to deserving, young Belizeans.
