Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: Prime Minister John Briceno completed a two day working visit to Toledo. At the completion of his visit on Friday and Saturday Prime Minister Briceno spoke to Love News before departing after his final stop at Hillside Health Care Center in Elridgeville.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “I was over at the Toledo Community Hospital and when I was speaking to the doctors and nurses and all the front line workers I always say that whenever we come to Toledo although you know I have a tight schedule I always feel relaxed and it’s so wonderful to be here in Toledo you know with the people and talking to us about their challenges in life, the basic needs that they need, it makes me feel that one there’s so much that we’re supposed to be grateful for but at the same time that there is still so much more that we can do, small things that can make a significant impact on the lives of Belizeans. Yesterday I was walking with our candidates, Charles and his team, visiting different areas of the town and talking to them making the point that we have a good team right now representing the People’s United Party, that the UDP has mismanaged this town for many years and when I look at the conditions of the streets and the parks the abandonment of what the UDP did to the people of Punta Gorda I think they deserve something better and I am confident that Mr.Selgado and his team that they’re going to do a good job and I want to also commit our government that we will work with them as a town council to ensure that we can bring betterment to the people of Punta Gorda; they deserve better and they will get better with a PUP town council and a PUP central government working hand in hand.”
Prime Minister Briceno also spoke of the large groups of volunteers he has encountered in the Toledo District.
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “This is one of the highlights of my visit also. I don’t want PG to get jealous but what I came to see here was truly amazing. That we have a lot of volunteers that come to Belize and to help our people. I mean tens of thousands of people that they have done all through volunteer work from our friends from abroad and also Belizeans that work right here I was quite pleased when I met Ms.Gomez and she said she’s an Elridge gyal but she lives at PG but her heart is here. I’m very proud of the work they have done here. I’ve walked the facilities I’m quite pleased and it warms me that there are still good people in this world that want to help those that need and they can assure you that they will have the support of the government to see how they can continue to reach out to help people, they work in the villages, they have a physiotherapy area things that are not really easily available in the Toledo district so I congratulate them and I want to assure them that they will have the full support of the government of Belize.”
Paul Mahung, Toledo Correspondent: “Prime Minister I don’t want them to feel we left them out but we want to rub in the name of this place here which is Hillside.”
Hon. John Briceno, Prime Minister of Belize: “Yes Hillside Healthcare Clinic and I’m up on the third floor, I have this wonderful view and yeah when I want to get away and come and relax with a good book I think this is a good place to start don’t you think.”
