Private who lost an eye on the job is promoted to Lance Corporal

While the police mourn the loss of Pandy, their sister organization, the Belize Defense Force is celebrating the life of a soldier who came within inches of losing his life. Private Fidel Williams was today promoted to Lance Corporal. He is the soldier who was injured and lost an eye in mid-November while on duty at the Forward Operating Base in the Toledo District.  Lance Corporal Williams was promoted during the annual BDF Christmas Luncheon today and was present for the occasion. BDF Commander Brigadier General Steven Ortega told Love News that Lance Corporal Williams received the promotion for his exemplary service in operations and furthermore for showing exemplary leadership although being injured. Commander Ortega said he never wavered from his duties even while injured. Lance Corporal Williams was injured when he attempted to detach a vessel at the base. He lost his footing and fell face first into water onto a metal pipe, dislodging his left eye. Since then his eye has been replaced by a prosthetic eye. Lance Corporal Williams remains on sick leave and recovering.
