Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, says he is willing to work with the Ramnarace family in reviewing the files and identifying a suitable private prosecutor. ComPol Williams says that police want to maintain as much transparency; however, some details are not shared in order to maintain the integrity of the case.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police: “I personally have no difficulty as the Commissioner I agree with the minister. If it is that we want to show transparency it must not only be said but manifest itself through our actions and I am willing to accommodate the family members if they so wish to have an attorney of their choice or a police officer of their choice to look at the file and see if there is anything that the police may be missing. I personally have taken it upon myself to every two or three days I would call the investigator ask them where they are, if they have completed the task I had given them. I had said that I was going to look at the file today again to see if there is anything that we may be missing. I also discussed the matter with Arthur Saldivar, a very prominent attorney in Belize, and explained to him where we are, what we have done because he like many Belizeans do have this perception that there was a lot the police were not doing but as I said before in an interview I gave last week there are many things that we have done and that we are doing that I will not say to the public in the interest of maintaining the integrity of the case.”
