Private Williams continues to recover from injury

A month ago, Private Fidel Williams of the Belize Defence Force, stationed at the Forward Operating Base located at the Sarstoon had a freak accident while on duty that left him in a critical condition. As a result, one of Williams’ eye was extensively damaged and was removed during a surgery at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). Furthermore, he traveled for Clinica De Merida where he underwent an assessment for a prosthetic eye replacement. Today, Felix Enriquez, the Chief Executive Officer at the Ministry of National Security gave the media an update on the progress of Williams’s recovery.

Felix Enriquez, CEO, Ministry of National Security: “He has returned from his initial visit to the doctors in Merida. They couldn’t provide surgery on him because he is still healing so he is scheduled to return at some point. So right now he’s on sick leave and recovering. He’s a coxswain so he drives the boat. That determination will be made by his commander, he is very capable and I am sure he will make the necessary compensation physically to do his work but he is in very high spirits and he’s looking forward to get back on the job.

Prior to that accident, Senator Osmany Salas, brought to light the deplorable condition of the Forward Operating base. Enriquez told the media that repairs are being conducted at the Forward Operating Base.
