While the BNTU has initiated its strike action, the Public Service Union (PSU) is still deliberating its position. This morning, PSU President Dean Flowers confirmed that if the union members choose to reject the government’s proposal, industrial action could follow. The PSU says it is prepared to issue a 21-day strike notice and potentially shut down government services nationwide if no compromise is reached. Flowers explained that the union is prioritizing consensus among its members to ensure that any decision reflects their collective stance.

Dean Flowers, President, PSU: “As it relates to Government’s proposal and where the Public Service Union stands, I can inform you that the Public Service Union is at this current moment soliciting the views of our membership. Our membership are casting their votes both in person and online today. We will have a final count on those votes later on tonight. And we will be able to then see whether the vast number of Public Service Union members accept or reject the proposals. And so by tomorrow, I’m pretty quite sure as a joint team, we will be able to establish or ascertain what our respective membership is saying. In unionism, there is something called solidarity strike. And whenever it is that a union or a collective body stands for justice, stands against corruption, stands against bad government, bad government policies, in the spirit of unionism, you must also stand in solidarity, as I said, solidarity strike. So if it is that the BNTU has engaged in industrial action today then, of course they enjoy the full support of the Public Service Union, because ultimately the matters that they are championing is the same matters that the Public Service Union are championing. So most definitely, whatever actions they’re taking, we’re in solidarity.”
Our newsroom will follow tonight’s counting, and report accordingly.
