The Public Service Union (PSU) has taken issue with the treatment dished out to the Director of Health Services, Dr Marvin Manzanero. Our newsroom spoke with the union’s Vice President Dean Flowers who explained that the situation has to be viewed as a concern for every public officer.
Dean Flowers, First Vice President, Public Service Union: “The situation with the DHS has in fact caught the attention of the PSU. It’s clearly a matter for the APSSM in the first instance as Dr.Manzanero is a member of theirs. Where the post of DHS is concerned that is what we are concerned about as it relates to our own members who are career public officers who have qualified themselves and I’m pretty quite sure one day are hoping to matriculate into that position. So where that matter is concerned like I said our attention is primarily focused on ensuring that the position of DHS remains a permanent established position regardless of who holds the position. What we want to ensure is that any public officer who is qualified can ascend to that position if and when their time comes. The most that I can say is that it has to be viewed as utter disrespect for a public officer not only a senior public officer but a public officer because we believe in fair treatment of everyone and so the manner in which he has been treated and disposed of clearly needs to be condemned for what it is and so that is as much as I would be able to say about Dr.Manzanero’s situation. As I said it could very well turn out to be a legal situation and I’m pleased to know that the senior managers are taking up his case and where possible we will give our input if and when asked.”
Dr Manzanero, who is a member of the Association of Public Senior Service Managers (APSSM) has reached out to the association for action. Love News spoke with the head of the APSSM, Sharon Frazer who says that the association will be meeting on the issue shortly, and they will decide how they will be moving forward in Dr Manzanero’s defense.
