Public Officers Fingered for Embezzling Funds

And while there is a shortage of funds in the judiciary, there is also a shortage of money at the Ministry of Labor, Local Government, and Rural Development. This is because an audit was carried out and over thirty five thousand dollars have been reportedly embezzled. Love News reached out to the Chief Executive Officer Valentino Shal who confirmed that the audit showed that the money was taken during the period June 2019 and July 2020. Love News understands that two public officers have been fingered for the missing funds. 29-year-old Emany Sanchez – a First Class Clerk of Roaring Creek Village, Cayo District along with 39-year-old Steve Murray Junior – a Second Class Clerk of Corozal Town were both taken into custody where they were charged with 15 counts of theft. Allegations are that Sanchez and Murray diverted the funds from the Government Smart Stream System into several other bank accounts including theirs. Our newsroom has been informed that additional arrests in this investigation are forthcoming. Late this evening we were informed that Murray has reportedly repaid over thirteen thousand dollars. Documents show that Murray had received just under eighteen thousand dollars.////
