PUC Holds Hearing on Belize Electricity Limited Tariff Proposal

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) held is public hearing last week as part of the full tariff review proceedings with Belize Electricity Limited (BEL). The hearing allowed BEL to further explain its proposal for rates for the period September 1, 2024, to June 30, 2028. The forum was also used for the PUC, other organizations, and private citizens to question BEL about the proposal. Deon Molina, Chairman of the PUC, explained that the commission would consider any information that arose from the hearing and would issue an initial response by May 6. Thereafter there will be another round of consultations. Here are some of the questions posed to BEL.

John Mencias, BEL’s Chief Executive Officer, made the presentation at the hearing and was on hand to answer questions from the PUC and the public. In addressing the questions raised by the PUC, he said that the company is connecting with its customers to ensure the best service delivery.

The PUC says it will issue its final decision by August 31.
