On Wednesday, November 9, 2016 attorney for the Belize National Teachers Union, Senior Counsel Eamon Courtenay wrote to Education Minister, Patrick Faber requesting that the order to have deductions made to teachers’ salaries be rescinded. While the letter is no surprise, as Minister Faber had told the media about it last Friday when we met up with him, what we can tell you tonight is that he will not be responding to the letter. Yesterday was the deadline for the Government to respond but with no response forthcoming, according to Senior Counsel Courtenay, an application will be filed in the courts come Wednesday morning. For context, we bring back the interview done with Minister Faber on Friday, November 11 on the matter at hand.
We did not get the full details of what that application will seek to do but we will be following up to see what legal recourse will be pursued.
