PUP National Executive Decides General Election Candidates

Today, the People United Party’s National Executive met to determine who will represent the party in the upcoming general elections. Over forty people had applied to run under the PUP banner, but, theoretically, the party could have only accepted thirty. The PUP stated that the only constituency off limits was Toledo East, which meant that others were open. However, whether any incumbents will be challenged is left to be seen. Today, PUP Chairman Henry Charles Usher spoke to us about the executive’s task to fine-comb recommendations from its National Campaign Committee.

Usher says the large number of applications indicates that the PUP has a strong footing among the Belizean populace.

The meeting was held at Independence Hall.
