PUP Remembers Southern Businessman Antonio Tony Zabaneh

The People’s United Party is also remembering southern businessman and community leader Antonio “Tony” Zabaneh, who passed away on October twenty-first at the age of ninety.

For PUP Chairman Henry Charles Usher, the loss is also a personal one. Zabaneh was his uncle, and Usher reflected on his passing and the contribution he made to Belize.

Zabaneh was a founding member of the Big Creek Group of Companies and a longtime advocate for Belize’s banana industry. He also served as chairman of Independence Village for many years.  The PUP credits him with helping to establish the Big Creek Port and the Banana Growers Association. The party also remembered his support for sports and youth development in the south. In 2025, he received the Order of Distinction for his contributions to business and community service.  A Mass celebrating his life will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, October twenty-seventh, at two o’clock in the afternoon at Holy Redeemer Cathedral in Belize City.  A second service, a Mass of Thanksgiving, is scheduled for Wednesday, October twenty-eighth, at two o’clock at St. Pius X Church in Independence Village. He will then be laid to rest in the village.
