PUP Says No to Referendum; No to ICJ and No to the UDP

The People’s United Party has issued a release on its resolution on the unjust Guatemalan claim to Belize. As has been reported, the PUP held its national party council in early July in Dangriga. At that meeting, the party stated its position.  The PUP says it is convinced that for the territorial integrity and security of Belize it can no longer place its trust, permit or allow the current United Democratic Party administration to continue to manage the territorial differendum with Guatemala in quote “the present reckless and autarchic manner”. As a result the party says it will not support at this time the holding of a referendum in Belize in order to ask Belizeans if they support the taking of the matter of the unfounded Guatemalan claim to Belize to the International Court of Justice and vows to continue to work and internationalize the position of Belize to the unfounded and unjust Guatemalan claim to Belize and to ensure that they continue to safeguard all of the right of Belize to all its territory, insular and maritime areas.
