The country’s political parties are gearing up for the upcoming municipal elections. In less than a year, voters will take to the polls to elect their respective city and town councils. People’s United Party Chairman, Henry Charles Usher, says his party has begun accepting applications and is in the process of vetting persons. Usher explained that so far, the slate is yet to be selected.
Henry Charles Usher, Minister of the Public Service, Constitutional and Political Reform: “Well the National Executive had opened the window for persons to apply for the different positions at the different municipal bodies, that window will close on August 4th. So I’d probably be better able to answer that after that closing date. If more than one person applies then it will go to the National Executive who has the final decision in terms of determining if there will be an elected convention or if there is an endorsement.”
Reporter: So nobody has applied yet?
