Kevin Thomas is known as the raffle man. He went about Belize City selling raffles for a living. Thomas was brutally shot several times on Monday night. The police told Love News that they do not have a motive for Thomas’ shooting but they have captured their suspect.
Jose Sanchez: “Steven’s shop across the Yabra Bridge doubles as the Police checkpoint but on Monday night at eight it became a crime scene as a Belize City resident was shot in front of the shop.”
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino: “Police visited the location and encountered one Kevin Thomas a 36 year old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his body. What Police understand is that Mr. Thomas was buying at a Chinese store at the corner of Yabra Rd. and East Collet Canal when a gunman approached him and fired several shots.”
Jose Sanchez: “The shooter fled into a Special Constable who then shot him also.”
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino: “The suspected shooter was leaving the scene when he was encountered by a Special Constable and that Special Constable was armed. He fired shots at the suspect and the suspect then fled the area leaving the firearm not too far from the scene. Half an hour later a male person was transported to the KHMH; one Shardon Gillet, an 18 year old of Iguana St. extension address, he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. He is under Police guard at the KHMH in a stable condition. That matter is being investigated at this time.”
Jose Sanchez: Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino indicated both persons are recovering at the KHMH however Kevin Thomas is fighting for his life.
Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino: “He is in critical condition, he is at the ICO as well. From what I know is that he was the only person at the the business establishment, he may have been the intended target.”
Police say the constable used a licensed firearm and shot at the suspect because he feared for his life. The suspect’s gun was recovered near the scene of the shooting incident.
