Raheem Arnold attacked and brutally killed at his residence

A father of one was killed over the weekend in the comfort of his yard in Belize City. The victim, 29-year-old Raheem Arnold, was shot and stabbed multiple times in his body on Sunday afternoon. His death is believed to be the result of a feud between him and his girlfriend’s ex-partner. Reporter Vejea Alvarez tells us more. 

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Less than two days after marching through the streets of Belize City demanding peace, 29-year-old Raheem Arnold became the city’s latest victim of gun violence. The father of one and his girlfriend were at their Watermelon Street home on Sunday afternoon when death came looking for him. According to Police Press Officer, Fitzroy Yearwood, around 11 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, two men with malicious intent arrived at Arnold’s home and brutally attacked him. 

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer: “Two male persons, one of an East Indian decent and another of Hispanic decent entered Mr.Arnold’s premises. He ensued in a struggle with both men, managed to get away from them. He was chased around in his yard and unfortunately four shots were fired in his direction causing his fatal injury.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News:  The assailants then made good their escape while Arnold fell in the drain in front of his home and succumbed to his injuries. His sister, Crystal Morris, says the family believes Arnold was killed due to a dispute he had two weeks involving his girlfriend’s ex-partner. 

Crystal Morris, Sister: “Only thing I know is that the girlfriend that he lives with she has a baby dad and it looked like he is not over her or I don’t know what but she has nothing with him but he looks like he’s still obsessed with her. See he killed my brother for nothing ? He killed my brother for nothing so obviously he was still obsessed with her still yet. They had a dispute like two weeks ago. They told me those two had a dispute, I wasn’t  there but I heard about the dispute between him  and my brother.”

Reporter: Did Raheem ever mentioned he had problems with this gentleman ? 

Crystal Morris, Sister:  “Yes he mentioned it to my mom. My mom said he had mentioned it and came there and said that the young man when he saw him he always have problems every time. He did mention it to my mom.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News:  And, while that’s the family’s belief, ASP Fitzroy Yearwood says the police are yet to receive any concrete evidence to support the claim and are yet to establish a motive. 

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer: “It’s only an allegation so far and we have to either prove or disprove that.”

Reporter: But no reports were made ?

ASP. Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer: “None officially.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: Arnold’s family says his murder has left them heartbroken as they are still reeling from the murder of his older brother Devon who was shot and killed in March 2020.

Reporter: On Friday you were along with your brother marching for peace and less than two days after he was –

Crystal Morris, Sister: “On the Sunday this is the news that came to our door. Thursday gone made it three years since they killed my brother and now Sunday they came and killed my other brother. What do they want to do to us ? I don’t know how my mom even takes this.”

Reporter: His kid, I know that he recently moved out

Crystal Morris, Sister: “Yes he has his son, his son is one year and change. He tried to change his life even if he did anything in the past he tried to change his life for his son and try raise his son right and be there for his son. He was all for his son. I don’t know how my nephew will even cope with this, he can’t even sleep without his dad, last night he was crying and I was watching him and crying because I said I don’t know how his mom will even deal with it because he’s close to his father.”

Vejea Alvarez, Love News: A year ago, after the birth of his son, Arnold moved out of his family home. Morris explained that the family was encouraging Arnold to leave the country but he insisted on staying to raise his son, who unfortunately will never see his father again.

Crystal Morris, Sister: “The last conversation with him we told him to try to – because my sister recently gone from here so we wanted him to go with my sister but he never went because he said he wants to raise his son, he didn’t want to leave his son here that is how he always was, even his brother told him to try to go but he didn’t want to go. He said he would stay here to raise his son.”
