There was activity on one of the main streets of San Pedro Town as law enforcement officers were seen raiding a store. Our Island Correspondent, Jorge Aldana has the story.
Officials on the island are not saying much in regards to a joint operation at a downtown store in San Pedro Town. Over 15 line for cement personnel were seen on the premises of Super Buy Store an Angel Coral Street. Onlookers gathered from various buildings nearby as Customs and Public Health officials went over the entire inventory of the store. While officials are not saying much about the operation San Pedro police has confirmed that officials from the exise and customs department were looking for uncustomed goods and public health officials were looking for expired foods. The press was kept at a distance by police wildly speculated because the owners of the store are considered a very influential on the island. However boxes upon boxes of goods were being loaded on board the vehicles belonging to the Customs and police departments. The operation lasted over six hours and at the end of the search the goods were tracked away and taken to an unknown location on the island, heavily guarded by a police escort. Super Buy Store on Angel Coral Street is one of two supermarkets and forms part of the larger investment of the Staines family on Ambergris Caye.
