Regional Conference on Migration Holds Mid-Term Meeting in Belize

Member countries of the Regional Conference on Migration (RCM) were in Belize this week, for a two-day technical meeting. The Mid-Term Meeting of the Regional Consultation Group on Migration (RCGM) was hosted by the Ministry of Immigration, as part of Belize’s term as the RCM President. The sessions were held on Tuesday and Wednesday and saw the participation of International Organizations from across the region, including the USA and Canada. Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Immigration Tanya Santos explained that the meeting was held with the aim of enhancing regional cooperation and improving migration governance. Santos noted that migration is a regional issue but that the work of the RCM will have a direct impact on Belize.

As part of the meeting, Belize’s first semester of leadership of the RCM was reviewed. Santos says that there will be a follow-up review, at the end of the country’s term when the presidency rotates out to another member.
