Residents of Corozal Town now have a safe place to recreate and host sporting events after major upgrades to the Corozal Andrés Campos Civic Center. For years, the facility had been in deplorable condition, posing health risks to the athletes that use it. Fortunately, after months of construction, the newly renovated center was opened yesterday with freshly painted basketball courts, new restrooms, and other enhanced amenities. The much-needed upgrades to the sports complex were made possible through a collaboration with Belize Water Services (BWS), the Corozal Town Council, and representatives of the district. Corozal Bay’s PUP Standard Bearer, Thea Garcia Ramirez, who played a pivotal role in bringing the project to completion, underscored the importance of the venture.
Garcia-Ramirez added that while the civic is currently Corozal’s only multi-purpose center, representatives of the district are lobbying for the construction of a second facility dedicated to multiple sporting disciplines.
Garcia-Ramirez noted that the town is in the process of putting together a basketball team to represent Corozal in upcoming national competitions.
