A Ladyville man is spending a year in prison after picking up his eighth conviction for theft. Today, 45-year-old, Eckert Anthony Fitzgibbon, appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, and pleaded guilty to stealing two hundred and fifty dollars from a woman’s purse. While Fitzgibbon admitted to taking the money, he said that he did not steal the purse. He contended he found it at a gas station and there was no one around when he did. The Magistrate said that, given his repeated convictions for the same offense a fine would not be the appropriate penalty. The complainant, 31-year-old Elma White, told police that the theft happened on Sunday, November 24 at a gas station in Ladyville.
