Retired US Army Soldier Killed in Belize City: Suspect in Custody

A retired US Army soldier was killed last night on the north side of Belize City.  At around ten o’clock Police were alerted of a motionless body on Saint Joseph Street.  Investigators arrived at the scene, and identified the victim as 67-year-old, Griffith McNaughton Cadle, a resident of Baymen Avenue.  Reports state that the victim was last seen socializing a few yards away at the corner of Baymen Avenue and St Joseph Street just before ten o’clock.  He was in the company of a clear complexion man described as being five feet seven inches in height and wearing a green T-Shirt and long pants.  Witnesses in the area reported that they did see Cadle running in the direction of Nurse Seay Street towards Chon Saan Restaurant with the other man in pursuit.  Cadle then collapsed on the pavement and the assailant ran away.  Police were able to recover a knife believed to have been the murder weapon.  A bus conductor of a Baymen Avenue address is reportedly in police custody for questioning.
