Elaine Berry, Cayo Correspondent: A fatal traffic accident claimed the life of two men from the village of Georgeville. The incident took place by Redmond Farm near mile 61 on the George Price Highway. The two persons that lost their lives were the driver of the car 44-year-old Lionel Chavaria and 23-year-old Charles Jones. Speaking to Love News Ian Staine who was a passenger of the car told us more.
Ian Staine, Passenger: “We were on the side of the road parked talking to my father’s uncle. This F150 pickup looked like it was coming from Belmopan direction, he was overtaking a tow head that was coming and it looked like when he saw the tow head and he couldn’t manage to mash brakes, because he didn’t apply any brakes, I was flung out of the vehicle, my little brother was stuck inside and my step father Lionel. When we reached to the hospital the driver Mario Aldana didn’t want to take his alcohol test to check his level witching he was under the influence, everybody saw that. We were coming back home and we were parked on the right but when we stopped and met my father’s uncle we were talking to him because he wanted to know why he was out there, once he passes her he never just shoots pass he stops to check on him. In that moment we were talking and this vehicle out of nowhere. I saw a glimpse of the vehicle in the mirror but I couldn’t do anything.”
Elaine Berry, Cayo Correspondent: I also spoke to Hubert Pandy the uncle of Lionel who was also on the scene of the accident.
Hubert Pandy, Uncle: “I just heard boom, the gas tank burst so I hurriedly got my headlights and spotted in the vehicle but the little boy Charles said “Help me. Help me.” and I said “I can’t help you.” and I spotted my nephew cracked back in his seat can’t do anything, he wasn’t breathing and then after that I just told him “Boy I can’t help you I’ll go hail your brother and sister.” and I went on bike. And when I reached home and couldn’t go anywhere I was just afraid and then I said you know what let me come right to Chavo’s wife when I saw them going in a vehicle in a ball of speed to go look at the location where the accident happened. And then as the accident happened I checked the time it was 7:45. I am telling you everyday I go to Caracol and feed my animals because I have some pigs and if I’m going there with my water he stops and says “you know what take it off the bicycle and put it in.”. If I am coming empty and he meets me at the curve and it’s like a quarter mile I tell him it’s all right and he says “Jump in man.””
