In past weeks senior officials in the Ministry of Rural Development have been giving significant attention to the villages and remote areas particularly in the Toledo District. These areas have long been referred to as the forgotten, but according to Chief Executive Officer Valentino Shal, the needs are dire for the residents especially when it comes to the roadways.
Valentino Shal, CEO, Ministry of Rural Development: “The Ministry of Infrastructure has been a very very key partner for us with the work that we have done so far, the construction of bridges you know the improvement of roads and streets in villages from Corozal to Toledo they are the ones who have been leading that drive we have been sending our requests to them and they have responded as quickly as they can to our requests and so they have been an absolutely wonderful and essential partner in the change that people are seeing so I have to thank my colleague CEO Espat and Minister Julius for the hard work that they are doing on their side. And of course for rural development we collaborate with multiple other ministries because it’s a multi-sectoral process that we have to follow. We have education and health that we also deal with for rural areas including infrastructure so we have to collaborate, we have to work together but the communication and the support from each ministry and each CEO and each minister has been tremendous and so that’s one of the reasons why we have been able to do so much in so little time.”
