Roaring Creek Villager Shot

While there were no shooting incidents in the Belize District, there was one recorded in the west. The victim, had gone out to get party supplies when the vehicle that he was travelling in, drove into a gun battle. Love News spoke to the father of Mervin Young who said when he heard the shots from his front porch after 9:35 on Sunday night, he could not believe it was his son who was the victim.

Jose Sanchez – Reporter: “Sunday night in Roaring Creek appeared to be peaceful until shots rang out in the night. Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett says one man was shot in the Hattieville area of Roaring Creek.”

Joseph Myvett – Deputy Commissioner of Police:  “Landy Thomas reported to them that whilst driving his silver in color Saturn Vue he was  accompanied by one Mervin Young 37 years of a Roaring Creek address when they were fired upon by a male person who was seemingly firing at another person. As a result Young sustained one gunshot type injury above his right eye, he was then transported to the Western Regional Hospital and later to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he is now in a stable condition. The police investigation into this matter is going on at this time.”

Jose Sanchez – Reporter: “ Mervin Young indicated that his son Mervin a Barber and Bar owner was just unlucky to have been in an area where two groups were shooting at each other.”

Mervin Young – Father of Mervin Young: “Well my son was down here and we had a little function. He was running out of drinks, he said that he was going to try to buy a couple more drinks and then he went to drop a family member home at Hattieville. Coming out back he was caught up in this crossfire with the gunshots and was shot by the upper right eye. From there they took him to the hospital, they transferred him to Belize and right now he is Belize City. We are waiting for him to get more treatment because according to my lady she told me that up to 10 o’clock they hadn’t even checked on him yet.”

Joseph Myvett – Deputy Commissioner of Police: “There has been a number of incidents in that area previously however there has also been a number of police launched operations in that area as well.”

Jose Sanchez for Love News.

Mervin Young is recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
