19-year-old Rayford Mejia and 21-year-old Glen Lopez appeared unrepresented before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford where the duo was charged with jointly for the murder of Police Constable Osborne Michael Martinez. Additionally, they were charged with three counts of robbery, one count of kept firearm without a gun license and one count of kept ammunition without a gun license. Senior Magistrate Ford explained to the duo that she cannot offer them bail because the offences are indictable. She remanded them into custody until January 8, 2019. The third culprit did not appear in court since he is still hospitalized after being shot by police. On November 2, police responded to a robbery in progress at Belcove Hotel on Regent Street West in Belize City, where they got into a shootout with the three robbers. Police managed to apprehend the three culprits but not before one of the police officers, Osborne Martinez, was shot and killed by the perpetrators. The monies and the other items stolen from the robbery were recovered.
