Rodwell Ferguson Cup Returns: Stann Creek West Area Representative Organizes Football Event
Area Representative for Stann Creek West is preparing to launch another edition of the Rodwell Ferguson Cup in the constituency. Minister Ferguson explained that due to the thousands of people he cater for, he had to host three editions of the football match.
Rodwell Ferguson, Minister of Sports: “Every year I host a tournament that is called the Rodwell Ferguson Football Cup and because of the size of the constituency, I have to do it in three parts or three zones. One we call the Northern Zone, one the Central Zone and one the Southern Zone because it will be difficult for one team from mile 25 in the Hummingbird to travel all the way in the village of Independence where there is a stadium to play football practically every Sunday; it will be very costly. And so then the Northern Zone plays in Pomona which is more convenient for all villages in the Stann Creek Valley and then the Central Zone is played in Georgetown which is central to the villages and in the Central Zone. And then those in the South Zone play in the village of Independence, which is closer to them. So by and large, each village might have to travel less than half an hour to go for a game so it’s less costly for them. And when they complete that session for ZONE, then each ZONE will get their prizes and then eventually all of them will meet now at the Michael Ashcroft Stadium for three weekends of the championship and the finals. That should be maybe after four or five months.”
